Kevin Beardmore was selected as the president of Southeast New Mexico College by the college’s Board of Trustees Oct. 17.
At a special meeting of the Board, board member Sarah Jo Bowman announced the board would offer Beardmore a three year contract with an annual salary of $200,000.
In a statement following his selection Beardmore said he was “honored and humbled” by the offer.
“Building upon over seven decades as the primary postsecondary provider for the community, it is poised to realize its incredible potential as the newest public college in New Mexico I look forward to working with the students, faculty, staff, Board of Trustees, and all the college’s stakeholders to create a brighter future for Carlsbad and the region,” Beardmore said.
As part of his contract, Beardmore was also offered a $1,200 monthly housing allowance, $12,000 in relocation assistance, a paid cellphone and wireless internet.
He will also receive help with temporary housing, including paid utilities, for up to 90 days while he relocates.
Beardmore was selected from among a field of six candidates which included the current interim president Andrew Nwanne, and vice presidents from San Juan Community College in Farmington and New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs.
Beardmore is currently vice president of Student Affairs at Owensboro Community and Technical College in Owensboro, Kentucky. He holds a doctorate of education from University of Kentucky, a master’s degree in elementary education rom Miami University an a bachelor’s degree from the University of Arizona.
President of the Board of Trustees Ned Elkins thanked the Carlsbad community for its patience as the board undertook the presidential search.
“I would like to extend my appreciation to the entire College community for your participation at the presidential forums,” Elkins said in a statement. “All feed back was reviewed and greatly valued by the Board. Everyone’s collaborative and concerted work and participation truly enriched the search process.”
