On behalf of the City of Carlsbad, we’d like to wish you and your entire family a very Merry Christmas. It has been another great year in Carlsbad, but also not without its share of challenges. We are certainly seeing so much progress and growth around town right now and are excited about what 2023 has to offer.
As always. Thank you to Carlsbad’s many wonderful churches, who provided much-needed support to so many of our residents throughout this past year. Our churches have had to adjust, probably more than anyone, to changes caused by COVID and even to a post COVID environment.
Our local churches assist every single day with food donations, clothing, with helping the homeless and with providing counseling. They are leading many successful rehab programs. We have especially enjoyed working with members of our local church community when preparing the annual prayer breakfast. If it has been awhile, we hope you and your family will consider attending one of Carlsbad’s excellent churches to celebrate Christmas this year.

As a community, Carlsbad’s annual Christmas celebration officially began a few days after Thanksgiving with the Electric Light Parade and Night of Lights. It has continued with a number of events and celebrations since.
We also see the true spirit of Christmas at places like the Community of Hope, where Robert and Patricia Jacquez will help residents in need. We see it in the Christmas Anonymous Program and Faith Hope and Love’s holiday program, where children receive gifts for the holidays. We see it in the many food programs sponsored and organized by our faith community here. We also appreciate the Southeast New Mexico Community Action Corporation, who delivers food to seniors who are not able to get out of the house.
As always, our residents with some of the most important jobs in our community will be working throughout Christmas. This includes our police officers and our firefighters, as well as local nurses and doctors and other employees of the medical center. It also includes our soldiers overseas. We thank them all for their dedication and service.
Merry Christmas Carlsbad.
